Cooling Pilot

Degrees of Humanity is preparing a practical cooling pilot for both sides of a 184-bed open-bay dormitory at Central Florida Reception Center in Orlando. The project is designed to improve conditions for 92 people on each side while documenting the cost, logistics, installation requirements, & environmental results needed to inform future cooling initiatives.

Defined need

This project addresses a specific housing environment with a documented cooling need, utilizing data from before & after pilot implementation.

Measurable scope

This project has a clear capacity, contractor proposal, campaign target, & implementation pathway.

Replicable learning

This process will help identify what it takes to plan, fund, install, monitor, & document future cooling projects.

PROPOSED APPROACH

A practical cooling solution designed around the facility.

A practical cooling solution designed around the facility.

The proposed pilot will install dedicated cooling equipment to serve both sides of the 184-bed open-bay dormitory. The system will be planned & installed in coordination with facility leadership, qualified contractors, operational requirements, & the needs of the people who will remain inside the dormitory throughout the work.

1. Facility Coordination

Confirm access, operational requirements, installation parameters, safety procedures, & scheduling with facility leadership.

2. Technical Planning

Finalize equipment specifications, electrical requirements, permitting, installation logistics, & system placement.

3. Professional Installation

Complete the work using qualified contractors while minimizing disruption to facility operations & the people living inside the dormitory.

4. Testing & Activation

Test the completed system, confirm performance, document baseline conditions, & prepare for ongoing monitoring.
